Astro
Alpine trout and char from traditional farms distributed throughout the valleys of Trentino are born and raised in glacier waters. They grow following and respecting the rhythms of nature: that's why they are healthy and their meat is tasty, tender and lean. Astro trout are the only ones in Italy that can boast the prestigious European recognition of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and the "Friend of the sea" certification, which is awarded to sustainable fish products.

The territory
The purity of the waters in which Astro Cooperative's trout and char live is monitored with strict chemical and biological analyses. Fish farmers can detect any small changes in the health of the fish fauna in real time. Trentino was the cradle of Italian trout farming: to stay in the market with a high-quality product that tourists love, Trentino trout farmers have decided to enhance the natural characteristics of the fish.
The history
The first trout farms in Trentino were started between the last two decades of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the last century in Alto Garda, the Giudicarie valleys and the Fiemme valley. The waters of the streams running through the valleys flow from high-altitude springs, and they fostered the development of these activities. Fish farmers first joined forces in 1975, forming a voluntary association that, 13 years later, led to the founding of the Astro cooperative to enhance the knowledge and distribution of members' product.
