Trekking in Fuciade

The historic Soraga di Fassa mountain pasture walk from Passo San Pellegrino, above Moena, to the Fuciade basin is not to be missed: almost flat, in the green and with the mountains in the foreground. The trail - wide, well maintained and practically flat - leads to the basin from the pass in an hour and a quarter. Unforgettable is the beauty of the basin surrounded by the peaks of Costabella, embellished with barns, cabins and a wooden hut. The meadows are overflowing with flowers. Here it is not uncommon to see horse-drawn carriages passing by. The views are superb, stretching as far as Col Margherita and the Pale di San Martino. 

Other ideas? You could also hike Val Duron downhill from the Micheluzzi refuge. Or the long Val San Nicolò, which begins in Pozza di Fassa and holds the fresh, cheerful waters of the Rio San Nicolò: at the top, tabià (barns) dot green meadows in a wide basin.

Alpine grazing and the activity of the alpine pastures produce cheeses with unique and intense aromas. The symbol of Fassa's dairy art is Puzzone di Moena (Spretz tsaorì, savory cheese, in Ladin). A cheese with a strong flavor, it has long been produced in the rotational dairies of Fiemme and Fassa. Raw milk and calf rennet are used to produce this goodness. The wheels are treated in brine. Maturation ranges from three to six months.

It is a PDO cheese and the one made from alpine milk milked in summer is marked with an «M».
