Valsugana

A valley that has been able to diversify its economy: industry, crafts, agriculture, tourism, tertiary. The wild Lagorai mountain range closes it to the north; the peaks of Piz of Levico and Ortigara, memorial sites of the Great War, to the south. The lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo are an added value: bordered by a bike path, they are both swimmable and suitable for slow, environmentally conscious tourism. 

The thermal baths of Levico the mineral water springs of Levico and Vetriolo boast a prestigious and ancient tradition. There are pleasant surprises in the urban centers: the lively vitality of Pergine, dominated by the castle on the hill, the Art Nouveau charm of Levico and Roncegno Terme, and the dynamism and picturesque touch of Borgo, with the Brenta River offering original glimpses as you pass through the historic center. The chalet vacation formula is becoming increasingly popular in the mountains of Valsugana. 

The two valleys that branch off to the north of Valsugana deserve their own space. The first is the Valle dei Mócheni, also known as the “enchanted valley”because of its intact and restful bucolic landscape and generous nature. This unique valley is inhabited by the Móchena language community, which still speaks a 16th-century Germanic language. This is a minority that came here to work the Prince Bishop's mines and today is the proud custodian of its uniqueness. Alcide Degasperi, the Trentino statesman and father of the postwar united Europe, was born here. The house-museum commemorates him. The nearby “Per Via” museum recounts the wandering lives of Tesino's print peddlers, who traveled throughout Europe in centuries past. 

Tesino's arboretum and the Garden of Europe are two little natural gems. So is the entire Val di Sella, which runs parallel to Valsugana in the central section on the south side: forests, small vacation homes from the last century, and the striking Arte Sella trail - one of Europe's most effective examples of Art and Nature (Land Art). Valsugana's agricultural vocation is composite: apples, cherries, pears, kiwis, grapes, vegetables, corn, and small fruits - an amenity born between Pergine and the outlet of the Valle dei Mócheni.
