Giudicarie e Rendena
Variety of landscapes and natural beauty. From the Ballino Pass, an ancient link to Garda from the Brenta Dolomites, to the pearl of international tourism, Madonna di Campiglio (loved by the Hapsburgs), to the Storo plain and the Valle del Chiese. Nature, mountains and many genuine specialties come together between the Giudicarie and Val Rendena, in the westernmost part of Trentino.
Typical products
From the corn crops of the Valle del Chiese comes the yellow gold of this area: the yellow flour of Storo. It is an indispensable ingredient in the varied recipes that can be created from Storo polenta (plain; with butter, cheese, grana and sage; with chicory and cheese; with lucanica). It can also be used to create various desserts.
Then in San Lorenzo in Banale there is a slow food presidium: ciuìga, a sausage made from ground pork, red turnips and spices. Zootechny, barns, alpine pastures and the distinctive Rendena breed of cattle are a source of pride and also an agritourism opportunity. The dairies in the area specialize in the production of spressa, a typical cheese made from cow's milk from two milkings, the first of which is partially skimmed. It is a technique that allows for a pleasant natural acidity. That of the Giudicarie Esteriori is also a valuable area.
Relaxing landscapes, cultivated fields and genuine products of the earth: vegetables (turnips, carrots, onions, beans), but above all the typical mountain potatoes of the Lomaso: yellow-fleshed (Désirée), ideal for gnocchi (Kennebec), round (Monna Lisa variety). And don't forget the chestnuts of Bleggio. This area is a fishing paradise: there are indeed fish farms that try to be environmentally sustainable.
Mountain traditions
Val Rendena stretches 17 km from north to south along the spectacular walls of the Brenta and the superb peaks of the Adamello-Presanella. It is a glacial furrow traversed by the Sarca River, which flows into the Garda River. For centuries its economy has been mainly pastoral, and it has also been a passageway to the north through Passo Campo Carlomagno. Val Rendena is famous for its sought-after charcuterie, which in the past was the winter activity of the farmers: speck, salamini, mocetta (carne insaccata con noce moscata). Breeding characterizes both Rendena and the Giudicarie Esteriori.
