Valle dei laghi

Valley of the lakes

Lakeside mirrors of water embellish a landscape of tectonic origin, shaped by the work of ancient glaciers, sometimes gentle and sometimes severe, in which the Alpine rigors gradually fade toward the Mediterranean notes of Lake Garda.

The valley takes its name from its numerous lakes, including Lamar, Toblino, Santa Massenza, and Cavedine, nestled in a landscape shaped by glaciers. The vegetation varies from the alpine slopes of Mount Bondone to the vineyards, olive groves, and forests that herald the Garda climate. Local specialties include Santa Massenza grappa, Dro plums, and a traditional broccoli grown locally. The castles of Toblino and Drena tell the story of the area, now also enhanced by tourism and climbing. The winemaking icon is Vino Santo, made from Nosiola grapes dried by the Ora and Pelér winds, which create the valley's unique microclimate.
