Val di Fassa

Val di Fassa

The kingdom of King Laurino is the Catinaccio. It is impossible not to think of fairy tales and legends while contemplating the architectural wonders designed by nature in the Fassa Dolomites. No planner, at a desk, would have been better able to make the pale rock combine with green meadows and dense forests.

Here, the language and culture are Ladin, as evidenced by the Ladin Museum in San Giovanni di Fassa and the typical houses with wooden balconies and "mussa" stoves. Valley cuisine emphasizes mountain dishes and local produce, with mountain cheeses and specialties like Puzzone di Moena. Flowing through the valley by the Avisio River, which descends from the Marmolada, the valley is surrounded by mountains beloved by climbers and explorers. Among the pastures and trails are tabià, characteristic wooden barns, a symbol of rural life. The most evocative moment is the Alpenglow, when the Dolomites are tinged with purple at sunset in an unforgettable spectacle.
